In memoriam: Dave Brubeck

Jazz piano legend Dave Brubeck has passed away today, one day short of his 92nd birthday.  His sound as a piano player created and influenced West Coast jazz, particularly in his native California, and along with saxophonist Paul Desmond, he forged what would become a new sound in jazz.  The rhythm section in his qaurtet was comprised of Eugene Wright on bass, and Joe Morello on drums.

There are so many great songs in his catalog.  Brubeck had a unique style that was innovative, and yet still came across clearly to listeners.  Here are some examples of his work including the legendary compositions "Take Five", "Strange Meadowlark", and "Blue Rondo a la Turk".  "Blue Rondo a la Turk" is at the top of the page, with the other two below my synopsis.

Also, here is an article about him from the Los Angeles Times.

Rest In Peace, Dave Brubeck.
