A "near perfect performance", this concert was described as, by the Winnipeg Free Press.  The band, consisting of Chris Potter on tenor and soprano saxophones, Lionel Loueke on guitar, Dave Holland on bass, and Eric Harland on drums, does not even have an official name yet.

In Memoriam: Ornette Coleman

Rest In Peace, free jazz saxophone legend, Ornette Coleman.  Coleman was an avant garde jazz master, and one of the most significant musicians of the 20th century.  Coleman has seven or eight very recognizable albums, in his catalog.

Gunsmoke Blues - Muddy Waters, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, & George "Harmonica" Smith

The film crew that worked on the legendary TV series, Gunsmoke, also filmed this blues concert circa 1971 during a production hiatus of the TV show.  Muddy Waters, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, and George "Harmonica" Smith did a concert in Eugene, Oregon, and the Gunsmoke crew, filmed it.  This is the result.

Anthony Braxton "Impressions"

Happy Birthday, jazz saxophonist, Anthony Braxton.  In this bonus post for today, Anthony Braxton plays John Coltrane's "Impressions", at an edition of the Woodstock Jazz Festival.  Not sure when this one, was recorded.

Gregg Allman Band "One Way Out"


Gregg Allman and his band, have a DVD coming out, in August, called "Back To Macon, Georgia", which was recorded at a gig there, in 2014.  Here's a preview, with the band playing "One Way Out", with Gregg Allman's son Devon, sitting in on lead guitar.  Yours truly, saw the Gregg Allman Band, live, back in late March, and is surely looking forward to this release.
