Willie Nelson (feat. LeeAnn Womack) “Mendocino County Line”

Happy 87th birthday, Willie Nelson!  To celebrate a treasured legend of country music, a tune that he recorded nearly two decades ago that yours truly enjoyed the first time he heard it.  From Nelson’s 2002 “The Great Divide” record, with guest vocalist LeeAnn Womack, here’s their duet, “Mendocino County Line”.

The Derek Trucks Band "Cheesecake"

From a performance on "Mountain Stage" here's The Derek Trucks Band with the Dexter Gordon tune, "Cheesecake".  Not sure what year this is from, even though yours truly has followed Derek's playing, for years, with the Allman Brothers, the Derek Trucks Band, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and the stint where he toured with Eric Clapton in 2006-2007.  Very interesting to see him playing jazz, and without using a slide, perhaps in Open E tuning, but I can't say for sure.

In Memoriam: Lee Konitz

We remember legendary jazz alto saxophonist, Lee Konitz.  He died at age 92, from Coronavirus.  Rest In Peace, Lee Konitz.

https://downbeat.com/news/detail/lee-konitz-92

Here is Lee Konitz, (in a video by Jazz Video Guy, Bret Primack), playing at a gig circa 1973.  April 8th, 1973 at the Highlights in Jazz Tribute to Charlie Parker, presented by Jack Kleinsinger featuring Mr. Konitz on alto, Cecil Payne on baritone sax, Howard McGhee and Jimmy Owens on trumpet, Ted Dunbar on guitar, Richard Davis on bass, and Bernard Purdie on drums, also featuring jazz vocalist, Joe Carroll.

Be warned, after celebratory riffing on the celebration of "Bird", Charlie Parker, the video does stop kind of abruptly.  But it is something to enjoy nonetheless.  We remember Charlie Parker, and Lee Konitz, always.

Phish "Down With Disease"

From their concert on August 31st, 2019, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, here's an appropriate tune, for these strange times we are living in with the Coronavirus pandemic.  Phish's tune, "Down With Disease".  The title, is something I am sure we all we wish we could proclaim.  Everyone, stay safe, and stay well.

J.J. Cale "Durango"

A very trippy, and yet cool instrumental jam by the late, great, J.J. Cale, that was indeed highlighted in the most recent Spotify Sunday.  Cale played piano on this track, and probably did a lot of work with other instruments as well.  This one is called "Durango".
