David Sancious

Two performances by keyboardist/guitarist David Sancious.  He is accompanied only by a drummer in each of these pieces, (Joe Bonadio).  He has worked with countless artists.  Some of the names include Bruce Springsteen, (he was an early member of the E Street Band and is another Asbury Park, New Jersey native), Stanley Clarke (touring in a band that also included Billy Cobham and Narada Michael Walden on drums), recorded with Clarence Clemons, and went on to work with Cobham in Jack Bruce's band, as the guitarist, while Cobham was the drummer.

Beyond those opportunities, Sancious has also played with other legends such as Carlos Santana, Sting, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and with Yes's Jon Anderson, among others.  Here is Sancious playing with Bonadio on two numbers.  "The Bridge", and "Sleight of Hand".  You'll notice on "The Bridge", Sancious uses a mouthpiece that is like a woodwind reed, and acts similarly to an EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument).  Except, (like Freddie Ravel in a video here where he plays keys with Frank Gambale's band), Sancious controls this wind synthesizer also with the pitch modulation wheel built into his Yamaha Motif electric piano.

Sancious also played with a band called Tone.  They released four albums, between 1975 and 1978.  His piano work is fascinating.  Check it out.
