It's another Full Concert Friday today, featuring the Sun Ra Arkestra, performing live in Berlin, Germany, in 1983. The band still exists today. Sun Ra himself, lived until 1993, and he would have turned 106 years old, a week ago. Dozens of musicians played in Sun Ra's band over the years and the decades. In this particular lineup, for the Berlin concert, featured members are:
Sun Ra: conductor (piano, electric piano, synthesizers, Celeste)
John Gilmore: tenor saxophone
Archie Shepp: tenor saxophone
Don Cherry: pocket trumpet
Lester Bowie: trumpet
Richard Davis: bass
