Dr. John & Rickie Lee Jones “Makin’ Whoopee”

Another tribute to Dr. John.  This time, it is his take, along with Rickie Lee Jones on the jazz standard “Makin’ Whoopee”, composed by Walter Donaldson and Gus Kahn.

Among the artists who have recorded it, the list includes Louis Armstrong, Eddie Cantor, Art Tatum, Doris Day, Harry Nilsson, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Oscar Peterson & Stephane Grappelli, Ray Charles, Marlene Dietrich, and Gerry Mulligan.  This recording was released on Dr. John’s 1989 record “In A Sentimental Mood”.  The album’s title track is indeed that jazz standard as written by Duke Ellington, Irving Mills, and Manny Kurtz.
