Nelson, did not write the ballad, nor did he record it first. It was written by Mark James, Johnny Christopher, and Wayne Carson. The tune, is a modern standard of popular music, and Nelson, was not even the first artist to record it. Brenda Lee, first did so, in 1972. A timeless song.
