Johnny Winter, live, 1970

Johnny Winter performing live in 1970.  Not sure what the tune is, and I don't think that's his regular Gibson Firebird he's had for so many years.  Can't tell.  This is a HOT track though.  Dig it!

Lee Roy Parnell (feat. Kevin McKendree on piano) "Milk Cow Blues"

Lee Roy Parnell does a stellar rendition of "Milk Cow Blues" on an episode of Austin City Limits from 1996.  He combines lyrics from the original performed by Robert Johnson, and written by Kokomo Arnold who wrote and performed the tune, with lyrics that were added later in country music renditions recorded by Bob Wills, and his brother, Johnny Lee Wills.  Johnny Lee Wills recorded it before Bob Wills did, incidentally.

Other artists have taken a shot at recording the tune, too.  Here's a history.

SMV - Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, & Victor Wooten

Check out this performance by three modern jazz bass greats.  SMV, featuring Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten.  This show is based on a record the three of them did entitled "Thunder".  Will put that one someplace in the Spotify Sunday listing in the near future. Notice that some of the tunes with more intriguing arrangements, have Clarke playing his upright bass, and Marcus Miller doubles on bass clarinet.

Joe Zawinul & Wayne Shorter duet

A moving duet on "In A Silent Way" featuring Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, shortly before Zawinul's passing in 2007.  These two were very significant in jazz with their own careers (Wayne Shorter, still is), and in working together for a long time, between being in Miles Davis' band in the late '60s and early '70s, and from there, going on to form Weather Report in 1970, and being constant collaborators in that band throughout it's 16 year history, between 1970 and 1986.  Rest In Peace, Joe Zawinul.

Here are more tributes to George Jones, including a story about his funeral, that yours truly did indeed watch the TV broadcast of.  It was a moving tribute, to a great artist.  George Jones was a country music icon.  But, like many in the genre, he had widespread appeal around the world in numerous musical circles.  Once again, Rest In Peace, "Possum".

The Ringers "Kaleidoscope Carousel"

Here is Jimmy Herring with his other band called The Ringers, (highlighted here a number of weeks ago before yours truly saw him play with Widespread Panic), playing "Kaleidoscope Carousel" from his latest solo record called "Subject To Change Without Notice" that was featured in a Spotify Sunday post weeks ago, too.  Three guitar slingers are in, The Ringers.  Jimmy Herring, Wayne Krantz, and Michael Landau.  The rhythm section is Etienne Mbappe on bass, and Keith Carlock (from Steely Dan), on drums.  This is a good one.
